Why We Switched to 3M — And Why We’re Not Going Back

Two years of using 3M abrasives in our own workshop. Here’s what we found.
We don’t add brands to our shelves unless we’ve used them ourselves. That’s not a marketing line — it’s how we’ve operated since 1957. When a product earns a spot at Wallace Heron, it’s because someone on our team has put it to work and it’s held up.
3M abrasives earned their place the same way.
We started running 3M discs in our workshop about two years ago — initially just to see how they stacked up against what we were already using. The difference was clear enough that we started stocking them. The range has grown steadily since, driven by what our customers and our own team actually need on the bench.
We tried them. They worked. We stocked them. That’s the whole story.
What we carry — and why
We now stock 70+ 3M abrasive products across four main areas. Each range was added because it solved a specific problem we kept seeing in the workshop or hearing from customers.
Scotch-Brite Clean & Strip XT Pro
Our first choice for weld prep, rust removal and thick paint strip. The open nylon web resists loading — so it keeps cutting instead of glazing over. Available in green (aluminium oxide, extra coarse) and purple (silicon carbide, extra coarse) depending on what you’re working on.

Cubitron II — 775L Film Disc & 732U Paper Disc
Precision sanding from 80 through to 1000 grit. 3M’s precision-shaped grain self-sharpens as it works — consistent cut rate from the first pass to the last. Less disc swapping, less rework, cleaner finish. The 775L is our primary workhorse; the 732U steps in for fine finishing and topcoat prep.
Scotch-Brite Surface Conditioning Discs
For blending, deburring and surface prep where you need control without removing base material. Consistent cut across the whole disc — no hard edges, no chatter marks. A staple in any fabrication or finishing workflow.

Bulk pricing — because switching should be easy
We’ve recently added bulk pricing across the 3M range. If you’re currently running a different brand out of habit, we’d back you to notice the difference within a case. Buy five or more and the per-unit cost comes down — enough to make a proper comparison worthwhile.
If there’s a specific product or size you need that you don’t see on the site, contact the team. We expand the range based on what customers actually ask for.
What we don’t do
We don’t stock products we haven’t used. We don’t list something just because a rep suggested it. And we don’t carry a brand to tick a box — if 3M stopped performing, we’d say so.
That’s the standard we hold every supplier to. It’s why our customers have been coming back since 1957.
